A.P.A.C. Ltd was established in 2004, with the aim of providing professional, client-focused archaeological and heritage services to both the private and commercial sectors. Since its establishment, the company has undertaken a wide range of projects across England and Wales, assisting private individuals, architects, developers and construction companies in meeting archaeology-related planning requirements. Our core staff have over 30 years of archaeological experience, and we are proud of our reputation for delivering efficient, high-quality work.

Dr. Neil Phillips

Staff Biography
Dr Phillips has worked in professional archaeology since the late 1990s, completing his first degree in 1999 and a research PhD in 2004. His doctoral research focused on earthwork castles (motte and bailey) of the southern March of Wales and involved extensive landscape and survey-based analysis, contributing to improved approaches to the dating and interpretation of Norman-period earthwork castles.
Dr Phillips has a long-standing specialist interest in early prehistoric archaeology and has participated in research and fieldwork relating to Palaeolithic cave archaeology in Wales, Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco. This work included projects associated with organisations, including the Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum Wales), the Natural History Museum (London) and Oxford Brookes University. Opportunities to work on such sites through commercial development are naturally limited. Alongside this, he has worked across a wide range of archaeological periods from the Mesolithic through to the 20th century, reflecting the varied archaeological landscape of Wales and western England.
Alongside commercial archaeology, Dr Phillips continues to direct long-term research work, including excavation of a previously unrecognised phase of post-medieval charcoal ironworking within the Wye Valley.
Dr Phillips has a particular interest in survey and recording methodologies and has led the development of high-resolution digital recording within A.P.A.C. Ltd, including the integration of laser scanning and survey control to support accurate archaeological and historic building recording.
A.P.A.C. Ltd reached its 20-year trading milestone in 2024, having grown primarily through repeat work and professional recommendation.
Adam Phillips

Staff Biography
Adam Phillips first worked on topographic and geophysical surveys as an assistant in 2000, later joining A.P.A.C. Ltd in 2014 as a part-time assistant, supporting post-excavation and project work during a period of business growth.
In 2016, he joined A.P.A.C. Ltd as a full-time member of staff and now works as an Assistant Project Manager. His role includes preparation of Written Schemes of Investigation (WSI), planning research, and assisting with historic building recording surveys, as well as supporting the processing and preparation of data and reports for evaluations, watching briefs and excavations.
He is experienced in laser scanning survey work, GPS survey equipment and resistivity geophysics, supporting both field data collection and post-processing workflows. He is also involved in finds processing and undertakes OASIS completion and archive interface tasks where required.
Fræya Phillips

Staff Biography
Fræya Phillips began working for A.P.A.C. Ltd in 2023, curating the in-house archives and library. Since completing her college courses in Art, Design and Computing, she has taken an active role in fieldwork, and is attending university to gain her degree.
